Centene Community Ice Center hosts 2nd annual Icebreaker Invitational

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. - On one of the hottest days of the year. The Centene Community Ice Center was the hub of excitement and fierce competition as it hosted the second annual icebreaker invitational hockey tournament.

This event showcase five of the nations top hockey programs for female players.

“It’s a good way to kick off the start of the season so it’s the first tournament early August so we do our training camp and then we come here and Spurs us as a spring board for the rest of the season,” said head coach of the junior canes Kevin Thomas.

In addition to the on the ice action, each team engaged in a nutritional and leadership training sessions

“This tournament doesn’t just focus on the on ice portion. We are focusing on the off ice portion. We really wanted to make it a lasting impact and be the tournament that people wanna come to each year,” said Brittany Koch with the tournament.

For those at the rink today, many believe the icebreaker invitational stands as a powerful reminder of the strides being made in women’s sports, inspiring young girls to pursue their dreams in hockey and beyond.
