The Los Angeles Chargers have been hampered by offensive line injuries over the last few years, and concerns have returned in the preseason.
Quarterback Justin Herbert has been one of the most pressured signal-callers in the NFL over the last few years, forcing him to take some really hard hits to make plays.
As a result, despite his toughness and youth, Herbert has picked up some injuries that have limited him as well.
However, after signing an experienced center in Tyler Biadsz and hiring top-tier playcaller Mike McDaniel, there was hope things could change.

Sadly for Herbert and the Chargers, Biadsz has already suffered what appears to be a season-ending injury in training camp.
Now, top draft pick Jake Slaughter, who was drafted to play guard in the NFL despite only playing center in college, is going to be the starting center.
He will likely succeed, if not now, then over time, but he can no longer compete for the left guard starting spot.

“Jake Slaughter is now our starting center, so that’s a big change,” Harbaugh said about the state of the offensive line. “The center position, right guard, right tackle, left tackle … those four [are set].
“Whether we have nine offensive linemen, 10, 11, on the final roster, they’re all in the mix for roles. Starting roles and backup role.”
All three options have limited experience as starting offensive linemen, and they are meant to be depth pieces rather than starters.
Luckily for LA, Rashawn Slater is practicing again after an injury setback, and if they get good play from four of the five, they could be good enough.
But now, they are an injury or two away from disaster.
