Chargers undrafted rookie offensive lineman Jacob Spomer made his mark in Week 1 of the preseason.
Spomer was among the many bright spots for the Chargers, so much so that he earned major recognition from Pro Football Focus. Spomer was among the highest-graded rookies, earning a spot in PFF's Rookie team of the week.
Spomer was the second-highest-graded player among rookie interior linemen with an 82.0 overall grade.
"Chargers undrafted center Jacob Spomer played the entire game and was equally impressive. He didn’t allow a pressure in pass protection and earned an elite 90.0 PFF run-blocking grade across 16 outside-zone rushing attempts. That type of performance should catch Jim Harbaugh’s attention."
The 25-year-old made his mark, allowing zero pressures and earning an elite run-blocking grade as well.
Spomer has an outside shot at making the roster, mainly due to the Chargers' crowded interior line depth. With that being the case, Spomer has a great chance to make the practice squad if Los Angeles chooses to go that way.
Through the first weeks of camp, Spomer has taken third-team reps behind Tyler Biadasz and fellow rookie Jake Slaughter.
Spomer played his college ball at Fresno State, where he was named to the First-Team All-Mountain West. He was the highest-rated center overall in the conference according to PFF.
Spomer still has a few more live-action opportunities to make his case and prove he belongs on the roster.
