The Chargers' offense could be in for a massive 2026 season.
Much of that has to do with the arrival of offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. The 43-year-old coordinator is expected to maximize the offense under Justin Herbert, as well as the weapons in the offense.
Herbert is expected to reach a new level, and the same could be said for Ladd McConkey. McConkey is one of those players with plenty to prove.
Entering his third NFL season, the wide receiver is coming off a down year in 2025 after an impressive rookie campaign in 2024. Now, McConkey is looking to get back to that level and potentially reach even greater heights.
With that in mind, NFL writer Kevin Patra identified McConkey as the Chargers player most likely to become a first-time Pro Bowler this season.
"Ladd McConkey took a step back following his impressive rookie season, but I pin that more on offensive line struggles that hindered the passing game in 2025," Patra wrote.
"The wideout should benefit from the arrival of new OC Mike McDaniel more than any of the Chargers' other air weapons. McConkey ’s ability to win off the line will be a boon to the quick passing attack, and his knack for gobbling up YAC should lead to explosive plays. This is the ideal combo of talent and scheme for McConkey to reach a new ceiling in 2026."
McConkey is set to enter the 2026 season as the primary target in the offense.
He's unequivocally the WR1 for the team, especially after the departure of Keenan Allen, which played a role in a down year in 2025. All eyes will be on the 24-year-old, as the expectation is for him to establish himself as one of the top pass catchers in the AFC and the NFL.
If that happens to be the case, McConkey could very well earn the first Pro Bowl nod of his career.
