Charlamagne goes off on Enes Kanter for making himself the ‘main character’ in WNBA trans issue

Charlamagne tha God, host of the Breakfast Club radio show, is losing patience with Enes Kanter’s recent antics.

In his latest effort to find relevance after a disappointing end to his NBA career, Enes Kanter is tackling the WNBA’s current issues with trans athletes.

While there are no trans athletes in the WNBA or looking to enter the league just yet, Kanter has ‘declared’ himself for the 2027 WNBA Draft.

Speaking on The Breakfast Club, radio host Charlamagne Tha God labelled Enes Kanter the donkey of the day, as part of their long-running radio segment discussing the most pressing topics in pop culture.

Charlamagne questioned the optics of Kanter’s antics, and how he can claim to be doing so in the name of saving women’s basketball, while making himself the central figure.

“You’ve lost the plot. He says he’s doing all of this because he wants to protect women.

“Yeah, so you go into a space built around women, in a league played by women, and a workplace where women are doing their jobs, and you create a situation where one of the women playing basketball ends up arguing with you.

“Now the headline coming out of the game isn’t about a basketball game; it’s about you, Enes Kanter Freedom. How did protecting women become making yourself the main character in women’s spaces?

“That’s what I don’t understand. You don’t protect women’s spaces by walking into women’s spaces and making the whole d— space about you.

“If your activism requires you to manufacture the crisis you’re claiming to be fighting against, you’re not raising awareness to a problem; you actually are the problem.”

There are definitely a lot of valid criticisms that Charlamagne made above. In an effort to ‘raise awareness’ about an issue, Kanter went and did what he and many people have criticised the WNBA for doing with their stance on trans athletes – distract from the game.

Despite the excellent basketball on display between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky, Kanter’s courtside antics became the main talking point to emerge from the game.
