In the first practice session, George Russell secured the third-fastest time, while Red Bull's Liam Lawson, who is filling in for the injured Isack Hadjar, managed to place fourth. Lawson's impressive performance comes as he continues to gain experience in the competitive environment of Formula 1.

McLaren's Lando Norris finished sixth in the session, while the reigning world champion, who has recently enjoyed victories in Hungary and Zandvoort, faced some difficulties as he followed Antonelli and Carlos Sainz of Williams across the gravel at the Turn One chicane.
As drivers pushed their limits, both Russell and Leclerc tested the boundaries of the famous track, with several teams reporting traffic issues over the radio. Behind Norris, Racing Bulls' Arvid Lindblad placed seventh, followed by Audi's Gabriel Bortoleto, Alpine's Franco Colapinto, and rookie Paul Aron, who completed the top ten.
Oscar Piastri, driving for McLaren, ended the session in 11th place, trailing his teammate Norris by more than four-tenths of a second. Meanwhile, Yuki Tsunoda, who is replacing Lawson for a second consecutive weekend, finished 12th, ahead of Audi's Nico Hulkenberg and Haas driver Oliver Bearman.
