It feels crazy to say that Patrick Mahomes is going to come back from his ACL injury in this time and continue to be the type of quarterback that he was. However, if there's one player in the NFL who deserves all the respect he gets, it's Mahomes.
He's continued to do things that the league has never seen, so coming back from his knee injury and succeeding at the highest level shouldn't be viewed as much of a surprise at all. In fact, it would be more surprising to see him come in and not continue to dominate the league.
The scary part is that he already feels really good, and according to Mahomes, he'd even go as far as to say that he feels great early on.
“It feels great,” Mahomes said, according to the team transcript, H/T Heavy. “When you’re tired sometimes, you don’t even think about [the knee]. I’m trying to protect it, but at the same time trying to push it and get myself ready to go for the season.”
The only concern here is that he seems like the type of guy who would push himself to try to do something that isn't needed early on. Luckily, the Chiefs know they need to be smart in a scenario like this, so they can save him from himself.
Ultimately, the bigger focus here is that Mahomes is in a good spot health-wise, which is about as promising of a sign as anything for Kansas City this early on in training camp.
