Clara Kongshaug, a sophomore golfer for the Colfax-Elk Mound girls golf team, is making headlines this season as she has been named the L-T Prep Athlete of the Week. Kongshaug has kicked off her second year on the varsity team with remarkable performances, winning three events already.

Last season, Kongshaug demonstrated her potential by finishing fifth at the WIAA state tournament, a significant achievement for a freshman. Her success did not stop there; she continued to hone her skills over the summer by competing at the junior level, where she claimed numerous victories in Wisconsin. This dedication to her sport has set a high standard for her performance this year.

In addition to her achievements on the golf course, Kongshaug is also a member of the Elk Mound High School basketball team, which is coached by her father, Jordan. This dual-sport commitment showcases her versatility and passion for athletics.

The Leader-Telegram recently had the opportunity to interview Kongshaug, providing insights into her life as a student-athlete. When asked about her favorite sport besides golf, she expressed her love for basketball, highlighting her well-rounded athletic interests.

Kongshaug shared a valuable lesson learned from her high school golf coach, Ryan Krall: "Great moments are born from great opportunities." This advice resonates with her, especially during high-pressure situations, helping her maintain composure on the course.

Reflecting on her favorite sports moments, Kongshaug recalled her experience at the PGA Jr. League Nationals in Frisco, Texas, where she created lasting memories with her team and had the chance to meet professional golfers Tony Finau and Will Zalatoris. Such experiences not only enrich her athletic journey but also inspire her aspirations in the sport.

While she has enjoyed many successes, Kongshaug also shared an embarrassing moment from her golfing career. She humorously recounted a time when she forgot her ball mark on the first hole, prompting her mother to dash back to their car to retrieve it.

Outside of sports, Kongshaug has a variety of interests. She is a fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and considers her sister, Belle, a significant role model in her life. A trip to Europe with her sister is on her bucket list, showcasing her desire for adventure beyond athletics.

Academically, Kongshaug enjoys math, finding it a challenging subject that stimulates her intellect. Her favorite meal is fettuccine Alfredo from Olive Garden, and she enjoys watching the TV show "New Girl." When it comes to movies, she could repeatedly watch "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days."

If fortune smiled upon her and she won the lottery, Kongshaug expressed her desire to purchase an indoor golf simulator for her basement, emphasizing her commitment to the sport. She also dreams of attending The Masters, a prestigious golf tournament, if given the opportunity.

In her free time, she enjoys reading and spending time with friends. An interesting fact about Kongshaug is her interest in cosmetology, as she loves doing hair and nails for her friends. With aspirations of being successful in her career and maintaining her love for golf in 25 years, Kongshaug continues to impress both on and off the course.

This recognition as Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Security Financial Bank, highlighting the importance of celebrating young athletes and their achievements.
