Cleveland Browns Finalize Roster Cuts Ahead of Season

BEREA, Ohio - The Cleveland Browns have made their final roster cuts, officially reducing their player count to the mandated 53 ahead of the new season. This move comes as teams across the league finalize their rosters, with the opportunity for players to be claimed off waivers beginning shortly after.

Among the notable changes, quarterback Dillon Gabriel has been placed on the reserve/injured list due to a back injury. This designation allows him to return to the team once he has recovered, providing a potential boost to the Browns later in the season.

In addition to Gabriel, tight end Joe Royer was also placed on the reserve/non-football illness list, which similarly allows for a return when he is fit to play. The Browns have also terminated the contracts of three players: cornerback Myles Bryant, defensive tackle Sam Kamara, and cornerback D’Angelo Ross, indicating a shift in their defensive strategy.

The team waived a total of 16 players, highlighting the competitive nature of the roster decisions. Among those waived were defensive tackle Travis Bell, who had an eye injury designation, and running back Davon Booth. Several other players, including defensive tackle Elijah Chatman and linebacker Edefuan Ulofoshio, were also waived due to injury designations, reflecting the challenges teams face in maintaining a healthy roster.

The Browns' initial 53-man roster features a mix of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers. At the quarterback position, the team will rely on Deshaun Watson, alongside Taylen Green and Shedeur Sanders. The running back group includes Michael Burton, Quinshon Judkins, Dylan Sampson, and Raheim Sanders, all of whom will play crucial roles in the team's offensive strategy.

In the receiving corps, the Browns have assembled a diverse group of wide receivers, including Denzel Boston, Jerry Jeudy, and Tylan Wallace, who will be critical in supporting the passing game. The tight end position is bolstered by Harold Fannin Jr., Carsen Ryan, and Blake Whiteheart, providing depth and versatility.

On the defensive side, the Browns have a strong lineup featuring nine defensive linemen, including Derek Barnett and Maliek Collins, and a robust group of defensive backs, highlighted by Denzel Ward and Grant Delpit. This solid defensive foundation aims to enhance the team's performance as they embark on their season.

As the league prepares for the upcoming season, the Browns' final roster cuts signify their strategic planning and readiness to compete. With the opportunity for players to be claimed off waivers starting Monday at 1 p.m., the team remains vigilant in monitoring potential additions that could strengthen their lineup.
