According to FOX59/CBS4’s Mike Chappell, Indianapolis Coltslongtime general manager Chris Ballardclarified on Tuesday in Foxborough to the covering media that starting wide receiverAlec Piercedid not actually receive a 2nd PRP injection in late June—contradicting an earlier circulating report:
Per Colts GM Chris Ballard: WR Alec Pierce did not have a second PRP injection. Clearing up confusion. Been rehabbing since March surgery. Feel good where he's at.
— Mike Chappell (@mchappell51) August 11, 2026That being said, Ballard did indicate that Pierce’s injury was both to his ankle and heel.
It will be interesting to see if Pierce can make it back by the time training camp ends, because the Colts have just four training camp practices left this offseason. Time at Colts camp has simply flown by.
Pierce was seen at the Colts joint training camp practice against the Patriots doing individual work with a trainer on the field. He even later signed autographs for attending fans.
The phantom ‘2nd PRP injection’ was concerning from a pain management standpoint, but every rehab is different, so even if it had occurred, the sky wasn’t falling quite yet.
Regardless, the Colts need their leading wide receiver back on the field sooner rather than later because the remaining outside receiving corps of Ashton Dulin, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and rookie Deion Burks looks a lot less formidable without his playmaking presence in the starting lineup as the team’s undisputed WR1.
