Colts make Keenan Allen signing official, waive RB to make room

The Indianapolis Colts announced on Wednesday that the team has officially signed wide receiver Keenan Allen.

Allen, 34, is a six-time Pro Bowler and has surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark six times in his career, most recently accomplishing that feat in 2023. Last season with the Chargers, he totaled 777 yards with four touchdowns.

His addition gives the Colts a needed boost at wide receiver. He will be able to fill a Michael Pittman-like role within the offense as a potential high-volume target on short to intermediate throws, as well as in the red zone.

Since Pittman's departure, it hasn't exactly been clear who would step into the WR3 role alongside of Alec Pierce and Josh Downs. Ashton Dulin was the most likely candidate prior to adding Allen to the mix.

Allen's familiarity with Shane Steichen should help him hit the ground running in the Colts' offense.

To make room on the roster for Allen, the team wavied running back Roydell Williams.
