Colts share troubling Tyler Warren injury update

After a sterling 8-2 start to the 2025 season, the Indianapolis Colts' season quickly went down the toilet. The Colts lost seven straight to end the year, eventually finishing in third place in the AFC South while losing what once sure seemed like a definitive playoff spot.

The Colts are hoping for a huge rebound this season, where ideally they'll be healthier, too. That mission might have unfortunately hit a snag during Wednesday's joint training camp practice against the Atlanta Falcons, though.

Second-year tight end Tyler Warren, who caught 76 passes and over 800 yards in a Pro Bowl campaign as a rookie, went down during a route in team drills. Warren would leave the field before returning later, but without his helmet, and he obviously did not practice again. Without getting into the specifics of the extent of the injury after practice, Colts head coach Shane Steichen confirmed that Warren had injured his groin.

Oof. A nagging soft tissue injury like that is never good news:

Colts HC Shane Steichen told reporters that TE Tyler Warren is dealing with a groin injury that he suffered during today’s practice.

While it's unclear how much time Warren might miss exactly at the time of this writing, it's safe to say he will be out in some fashion for the foreseeable future. Per Cleveland Clinic, even a Grade 1 groin strain (considered the least severe) usually takes around a month to fully recover from. The Colts' 2026 regular-season opener against the Baltimore Ravens is just under a month away at the time of this writing.

Here's hoping for the best news for the Colts and Warren in the coming days as they evaluate his injury more closely.

Who is Tyler Warren's backup on the Colts?

Mo Alie-Cox is listed as Warren's backup on the Colts' official depth chart. The 32-year-old veteran, Alie-Cox, is entering his ninth NFL season, all with the Colts.
