Jayden Daniels is having fun learning a new offense.
Tuesday, Kevin Clark was at Commanders Training Camp practice at the team’s Ashburn facility. Clark spent a brief time with Commanders starting quarterback Jayden Daniels. Clark got Daniels to discuss some of the new elements of OC David Blough’s offense as the Commanders prepare for the 2026 season.

— Kevin Clark (@bykevinclark) August 18, 2026What’s new? Well, apparently David Blough has put a lot on Daniel’s plate this offseason. Daniels referred to the snap of the ball, stating that prior to that snap there are a lot of kills and checks because you want the opportunity to run the best play possible against the defensive alignment.
Daniels also said turning his back to the defense was a big learning point this summer. “That’s sort of a big thing that I am getting used to. It’s been fun a part of the process, and it’s fun to learn. Not only has Daniels been listening to Blough to learn the new offense, but he has also been watching film of other NFL quarterbacks. When asked which quarterbacks he has been watching, Daniels gave Clark two names.
“I think Stafford (Matt) does it the best,” expressed Daniels. “He is very much up there.” Then Daniels mentioned a name that may surprise more than a few fans. “You know, Goff (Jared), how he does things. You know, we work out with the same QB coach. So to be able to go to him and have those conversations with him on how he did and learned. He’s been in his offense for some time, so it’s been fun.”
Daniels enjoyed a terrific rookie season in 2024, passing for 3,568 yards and rushing for an additional 891 yards. He completed 69.0 percent of his passes as well. Yet, 2025 came with lots of struggles. The wide receivers room was really beaten down with injuries, and Daniels himself was knocked out of four separate games. As a result, Daniels played in and started only seven games in 2025.
Kliff Kingsbury was his offensive coordinator those first two seasons, but has moved on to the LA Rams. However, though Blough wasn’t the offensive coordinator in Daniels’ first two seasons, he was on the staff and worked closely with Daniels. Consequently, Daniels has comfort and familiarity with Blough.
Let’s hope Daniels keeps having fun; that will mean more wins and more fun for the fan base, too.
