In the latest interview with the New York Post, Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor appeared to support the owners and front office staff and expressed his desire to remain in Queens until at least his contract expires.
Just before the opening day of the 2021 season, Lindor signed a massive ten-year, $341 million extension with the Mets, keeping him in Queens through 2031.
“The plan is to be here for my contract… We have the right guys. Stearns is the right guy. We have one of the best owners in sports history… We have not taken a step backwards,” Lindor told the Post.
Fans were quick to share their reactions to Lindor’s viral quotes, with many firing shots at the Puerto Rican for his misplaced comments and emphasizing the deep hole the team has been in over the past few seasons.
“He has a no trade clause right? So no need to back stearns like that. Completely unnecessary.”
New York is currently in a three-game series against the Braves in Atlanta. The series is tied at one game apiece, with both teams having everything to play for in the series finale tomorrow.
Francisco Lindor Has Disappointing Numbers at the Plate This SeasonLindor isn’t having his ideal season at the plate this year. He has a .242 batting average, 11 home runs, 30 RBIs, and a .766 OPS over 64 games, though multiple injuries and time on the IL have limited his progress.
Based on current trends, Lindor is projected to hit just 15 home runs and 41 RBIs this season, matching his worst seasons with the Guardians in 2015, 2016, and 2020.
After the series against the Braves, the Mets head home to begin a six-game homestand against the Nationals and the Padres.
