Could Kinley Rasmus pitch for Alabama in Little League World Series today? Why not

When Phenix City found itself down five runs in the third inning of its game against Pennsylvania in the Little League World Series, manager Case Rasmus knew just what to say to regroup his All-Stars.

"We have Kinley Rasmus," he grinned during a meeting on the mound.

Rasmus pitched the remainder of the game and added six more strikeouts to her Little League World Series stat line. Phenix City won 6-5 to bounce West Chester, Penn. from the tournament, and Rasmus tied the record for most total strikeouts by a girl in Little League World History, touting 14 before Alabama plays again on Tuesday, August 25.

However, Rasmus won't be able to break the total strikeouts record when Alabama meets Washington again, and she won't be able to turn Phenix City's luck around from the mound. She threw 54 pitches, and by Little League rules, that mandates three calendar days of rest.

With no competition scheduled for Friday, August 28, Rasmus could pitch again on Saturday, August 29 in the U.S. championship should Phenix City advance, which would require three more wins, including Tuesday against Washington.

Alabama will play Washington at approximately 2 p.m. CT at Lamade Stadium on ESPN.
