Crosscutters get win in State College 4-3

STATE COLLEGE, PA(WBRE/WYOU)-- The Williamsport Crosscutters grabbed its 40th win of the season Wednesday night with a 4-3 win over the State College Spikes. The Cutters scored two runs in the eighth inning to secure the comeback win.

Williamsport scored first on Wednesday night. Nick Barone drove in Chris Stanfield with a sacrifice fly to center field in the top of the second inning. James McCoy extended the lead to 2-0 in the top of the third with a solo home run. The blast was McCoy's eighth of the season.

State College scored three times in the seventh inning to take the late lead. It did not last long though, as Jake Zitella hit a triple in the top of the eighth to reclaim the lead at 4-3. Zitella drove in both Barone and Stanfield with the three-bagger.

Matthew Mariano picked up the win in relief on Wednesday. Mariano tossed 2.1 innings, striking out six of seven batters. The righty improves to 3-0 on the season, lowering his ERA to 2.32 for the year.

The Crosscutters continue its Little League road trip on Thursday. Williamsport wraps up its series with State College before heading to West Virginia for a three-game set with the Black Bears.
