Dad, 41, Accused of Tripping Child Athlete on the Field Because He Was ‘Upset With a Play’

A Wisconsin father has been accused of bad sportsmanship after he allegedly ran onto a football field and deliberately tripped a 9-year-old player.

Video obtained by ABC affiliate WISN 12 News showed an unidentified man appearing to rush the field in Mount Pleasant and put his leg out in front of a child who was running for a touchdown.

Mount Pleasant police told CBS 58 that the man, 41, was “upset with a play” when things escalated during the Saturday, August 22, match between the Racine Eagles and the Milwaukee Colts.

Officers reportedly stopped him while he was driving from Case High School and said he was “cooperative” and “admitted to the act and acknowledged he was wrong.”

The man was issued a citation for disorderly conduct and released from custody, per CBS 58.

According to the news outlet, the parent in question was from the Milwaukee team, and Racine coach Channing Schultz was on vacation when the drama unfolded.

“I was filled with anger, it was disgusting,” Schultz told the news outlet. “It was the most cowardly act I’ve ever seen. For him to just do it with so much intent and he was committed. No words can fix that at all.”

As for the child who was tripped, Schultz told Fox 6, “He’s a tough kid, he is doing fine. All my kids are special, but he’s one of my kids that has a natural God-given ability, and it didn’t surprise me that he got up and was ready to play again.”

“He is a very soft-spoken kid, you wouldn’t know if he was happy or sad, but he is the hardest worker,” Schultz added, describing the young athlete as “extremely talented.”

WISN 12 News said that the Milwaukee team has banned the parent from attending future games.
