In a lighthearted twist to the Dallas Cowboys' preseason, linebacker Von Miller has successfully acquired the coveted No. 40 jersey, a number he previously wore during his high school and college career. The deal, however, came with an unexpected twist: it involved a business partnership with fullback Hunter Luepke, the former owner of the jersey.

Miller, a seasoned NFL veteran and future Hall of Famer, expressed his desire to don No. 40 shortly after joining the Cowboys. Unfortunately for him, Luepke had already claimed that number for his own. The situation quickly turned into a playful negotiation, as Miller sought a way to convince Luepke to relinquish the jersey.

As it turns out, Miller, who is also a co-founder of the organic poultry farm Greener Pastures Chicken, proposed an intriguing offer to Luepke: a lifetime supply of chicken. However, Luepke, showcasing his strong negotiation skills, countered with a request for equity in the chicken farm instead. "Being the great negotiator he is, he was like, 'How about equity in Greener Pastures Chicken?'" Miller recounted during an episode of his podcast, Free Range. "I was like, 'It's something that we could probably work out.' We kind of had to do some negotiating at first. He's been 40 for a long time. It ain't something that I can just come in and Boss Hogg."

Ultimately, the negotiations proved fruitful, with Miller confirming that he was now 100% certain of the agreement. With this arrangement, Miller will wear No. 40, while Luepke will switch to No. 30. This resolution comes as a relief to fans who may have recently purchased Miller's jersey, which retails for around $150. Although the specifics of the equity deal remain undisclosed, it’s clear that both players will benefit from this unique partnership.

In addition to this jersey swap, the Cowboys have also seen other roster changes, including Caleb Downs officially adopting the No. 13 jersey, which he has worn throughout the preseason. As the Cowboys prepare for the upcoming season, these developments highlight the team's dynamic atmosphere and the camaraderie among its players.

As the Cowboys gear up for their season opener, the addition of Miller and the resolution of the jersey number saga are just a few of the storylines to watch. With Miller's experience and leadership, combined with the lighthearted nature of this negotiation, the Cowboys are poised to have an engaging season ahead.
