Dana White hopes ex-NFL player Anthony Wint keeps building UFC momentum

LAS VEGAS – Dana White wants to see more fighters capitalize on their momentum like ex-NFL player and UFC newcomer Anthony Wint.

The UFC CEO was impressed not only with what he saw from Wint (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) on Dana White's Contender Series on Aug. 11, but also with his incredibly quick turnaround to make his promotional debut 11 days later. Wint won both fights in the first round; he stopped Matt Adams with punches in 34 seconds on DWCS and submitted Terrance Chatman at UFC Fight Night 285.

"I love it. I love guys that want to turn around that fast, too," White told reporters during the DWCS 89 post-fight news conference. "Especially with how quickly he won. He wasn't hurt, you know, probably got more banged up in camp than he did in the acutal fight – and he wants to turn around, opens the show in Sac, and wins as impressively as he did. Once you have that type of momentum behind you, you just got to keep rolling with it. You know, you don't want to disappear and not fight."

Not many newcomers get the opportunity to have their debut and sophomore appearance in rapid fashion, but Wint's introduction is reminiscent of another DWCS signee from last year, Baisangur Susurkaev, who only needed four days to make his UFC debut. Like Wint, Susurkaev (12-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) finished both opponents and quickly gained a following.

White's attention has always been grabbed by fighters who want to show up and compete often. Wint fits that bill, but getting fights as often as he may like falls on the matchmakers, who have to juggle a massive roster to fill its schedule. Luckily for Wint, the heavyweight division seems to be begging for fresh stars, and just might get what he and White want.

"I told you guys last week that this show has paid fighters that have come off it like $225 million over the last 10 years, and one of the guys that never fought for a world title has made over $11 million," White said. "So, staying active and keeping yourself out there and in everybody's face is not only good financially, but you know, you have a very limited amount of time to make a lot of money – in any sport. So, staying active is the move. I love it."
