LAS VEGAS – UFC CEO Dana White very much likes what he sees in Anthony Wint.
Wint, a former NFL player, won a contract with the UFC on Tuesday by delivering a violent and quick finish in the main event of Dana White Contender Series 87 – which took place at the Meta Apex. Wint (7-0) defeated Matt Adams via TKO 34 seconds into the first round of their heavyweight contest.
After the fight, not only did Wint call for his UFC contract, which he got, but he also requested to be given a fight at Saturday's UFC 330 or any upcoming card. This won over White.
"Wint is fun. This guy is all over me," White said at the DWCS 87 post-fight press conference. "He says, 'I'm not leaving Las Vegas until you guys get me a fight,' so probably put him on (UFC) Sacramento. I love guys who want to turn around quick and fight again. When you come into the Contender and you do well and you get that pop, staying active is the best thing you could do."
UFC Fight Night 285 goes down on Aug. 22 at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif. White said he's already in talks with the UFC matchmakers to accommodate Wint's request. Trying to quickly capitalize off a big win on DWCS is a key to success, White thinks. He's seen it before with other fighters and thinks Wint is making the right career moves.
"If that's your mentality, then I'm all in on that," White explained. "On Fight Island during COVID, Khamzat Chaimaev said, 'I want to fight again next week,' and the matchmakers said, 'No, he can't fight next week,' and I said, 'Yes, he can. Get him a fight next week,' and we did it, and look at what happened. Usually guys who have that type of mentality, I'm in. I love it."
