East Side Little League’s World Series hopes were dashed Monday night as the 12-year-olds from West Chester, PA, fell in extra innings, 6-5, to Southeast's Phenix City, Alabama, in an elimination-bracket game in Williamsport.
West Chester built a 5-0 lead through its half of the third inning but Phenix City rallied for a 5-spot in the bottom of the frame to knot the score.
Kinley Rasmus, one of two girls rostered in the World Series, came in to pitch for Phenix City midway through the third and shut down West Chester for the remainder of the game.
Alabama threatened in the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases with no outs, but Pennsylvania pitcher Cole Warner escaped unscathed, striking out the side (actually fanned four in the inning but a strikeout victim reached on a passed ball).
After the regulation six innings, a ghost runner was placed at second base. West Chester failed to score its ghost runner in the top of the seventh but Alabama loaded the bases in its half of the seventh and plated the game-winner on a Brooks Cameron single up the middle to stay alive in the Series.
The Mid-Atlantic Region champions end their season while The Southeast’s Alabama moves on to face Northwest’s Washington in pursuit of the 2026 Little League World Series championship.
