Dodgers 1B Freddie Freeman exits game after scary fall down steps into Dodger Stadium dugout

The Los Angeles Dodgers are holding their breath on Freddie Freeman after a frightening play on Wednesday.

The All-Star first baseman accidentally fell down the concrete steps into the visitors dugout at Dodger Stadium in the eighth inning against the Kansas City Royals. He had been tracking a pop-up from Royals outfielder Isaac Collins and clearly lost track of his location in foul territory.

Freeman was clearly shaken up on the play and received a visit from Dodgers trainers, but opted to remain in the game.

However, Freeman was later pulled in the bottom of the eighth inning, with Tommy Edman pinch-hitting for him and later remaining in the game at second base, with Kiké Hernández moving to cover for Freeman at first.

The Dodgers won the game 4-2.

Even with its fourth win in five games, Los Angeles hardly needs another injury as it tries to make up for its biggest slump of the season. The 36-year-old Freeman is one of its most indispensable players, earning his 10th career All-Star nod this season and entering Wednesday slashing .305/.378/.472.
