The Miami Dolphins had an unfortunate injury just two defensive plays into their preseason battle with the New York Giants on Saturday, as linebacker Trey Moore suffered an ankle injury that resulted in the rookie getting carted back to the locker room.
On Tuesday, Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley spoke to the media ahead of practice and provided an update on Moore's condition.
"Trey will have surgery," Hafley said. "I would be hopeful that he'll be back at some point this season, but it will be a while."
Moore has been working at both on-ball and off-ball linebacker this offseason after the Dolphins took him in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL draft out of Texas.
With Miami hoping that the 23-year-old will return this year, they can't put him on injured reserve until the start of the regular season, so they'll have to work with just 90 players for now instead of the 91 that they're allotted. Moore will have to make the original 53-man roster out of camp, but the Dolphins can move him to injured reserve after that.
