After trading away Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars and reportedly waiving both Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski, the Miami Dolphins were set to have just Malik Willis as their lone quarterback in the room.
However, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday that Miami is sending a 2028 sixth-round pick to the Green Bay Packers for quarterback Kyle McCord to be Willis' backup.
McCord, 23, played at Ohio State from 2021-23, earning All-Big Ten honors once, and at Syracuse in 2024, earning All-ACC honors and leading the NCAA in passing yards. Between both schools, he appeared in 37 games and started 26, leading his teams to a 22-4 record while completing 66.2% of his passes for 8,555 yards, 61 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.
The Philadelphia Eagles took him in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL draft, but he spent his rookie season on the practice squad. Green Bay signed McCord to a reserve/futures contract back in January. In three preseason games this year, he completed 65.7% of his passes for 446 yards and four touchdowns.
Miami should have great intel on McCord, given that general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley both came from Green Bay this offseason and still have plenty of connections there.
