Cleveland (61-65) defeated San Francisco (51-74), 8-1, on Tuesday at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. Drew Gilbert extended his on-base streak to seven games.
He started in left field and went 0-for-3. The former Vol walked in the fourth inning and struck out two times.
The last game Gilbert did not reach base was Aug. 8 against Detroit.
The Giants and Cleveland will next play on Wednesday. Game 2 is slated for 6:40 p.m. EDT and a series finale will be contested Thursday (1:10 p.m. EDT).
Gilbert played at Tennessee from 2020-22 and appeared in 141 games, including 134 starts, as a batter for Tennessee. He recorded a .314 batting average, 22 home runs, 140 RBIs and 116 runs with the Vols.
Gilbert also appeared in 11 contests as a relief pitcher and had a 2-0 record.
He was selected by Houston in the first round (No. 28 overall) of the 2022 MLB draft.
