Some of you will remember Stan Brunson, who was a solid walk-on for Duke in the early 1990s who eventually earned a scholarship. He also played soccer while at Duke.

Like most walk-ons, he was greatly appreciated by the fans, and after his playing days were over, he returned to Durham and got his MBA from Fuqua.

Now, his son, Will, is a highly regarded recruit, and Duke is at least somewhat on the radar.

Brunson, in the Class of 2028, is around 6-6, plays for IMG Academy and is a top 20 player in his class.

But will his Duke ties matter? Maybe, maybe not: “My dad went to Duke, so everybody in the house is always going for Duke when I was growing up, but in the past three years I just became a huge college basketball fan,” he told the Up Next Podcast. “I turn on YouTube and look at the replays of March Madness. I’m not really a fan of nobody right now.”

That’s entirely his decision, obviously, but the family lure of Duke has perhaps swayed other recruits, notably the Boozer twins, and coming soon to Cameron, Kager Knueppel. Then there’s Clay Buckley, Mark Williams, who followed sister Elizabeth to Duke, the Plumlee Brothers, the Jones Brothers, and Ryan and Sean Kelly.

We’re not saying that any of that will matter to young Brunson…but it is pretty cool to see Duke Basketball become multi-generational.
