FALL RIVER — The Durfee football team concluded their preseason preparations with a spirited scrimmage against the visiting West Bridgewater squad at B.M.C. Durfee High School. This matchup served as a critical opportunity for both teams to gauge their readiness ahead of the regular season, which kicks off next Friday.

The contest featured a competitive atmosphere, reminiscent of a regular-season game, as players from both sides displayed their skills and determination. Among the spectators were Taylor Brown and Justin Kogler, who were part of Durfee's only Super Bowl appearance in 2020. Their presence added a layer of significance to the event, as they observed the current team’s performance closely.

Reflecting on the scrimmage, Brown noted, "We have a lot of things to clean up. We did some good things out there. It was a highly competitive game." His comments underscore the team's recognition of both their strengths and areas for improvement as they prepare for the challenges of the upcoming season.

The intensity of the scrimmage was palpable, particularly late in the third quarter when a late hit on the sidelines ignited some heated exchanges between players. Even Brown and Kogler, who were watching from the sidelines, found themselves caught up in the competitive spirit of the game.

Despite the fierce competition, both teams adhered to the tradition of a postgame handshake, demonstrating sportsmanship after an emotionally charged contest. This scrimmage not only served as a final test before the season starts but also as a reminder of the camaraderie and respect that exists between rival teams.

As the regular season approaches, Durfee is set to open their campaign against Attleboro at home, while West Bridgewater will host Falmouth. Both teams will be looking to build on the lessons learned from this scrimmage as they aim for success in their respective seasons.
