Dwight Howard’s former teammate has a ‘simple’ solution to end trans athletes in WNBA debate

One former teammate of NBA legend Dwight Howard has a simple but effective solution to the debate about transgender athletes in the WNBA.

Ever since its introduction in 1996, the WNBA, as the name suggests, has been the league for the biggest women’s basketball players in the world.

Fast forward to 2026, and the WNBA is finally booming in popularity, but if there’s one thing that’s holding the league back, it’s its unclear participation policies.

It has sparked a debate about the potential inclusion of transgender athletes in the W. There has been a mixed reaction to the debate, but one former NBA player sees a very simple solution to it.

Former Houston Rockets player and teammate of Dwight Howard, Ty Lawson is seemingly tired of the recurring trans athletes in the WNBA debate.

Keeping that in mind, the former NBA point guard shared a short but effective solution to put an end to this discussion.

“Just start a trans league… keep it simple,” Lawson wrote on X.

Right now, the NBA has a clear policy about which athletes can be a member of the league. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the WNBA.

But assuming the WNBA only allows women to be a part of their league, the next logical step would be to start a new league that features only trans athletes. But is it possible to actually implement this idea? Only time will tell.
