Eagles injury updates from Tuesday’s open practice

The Philadelphia Eagles entered Tuesday’s open practice without seven players before Lane Johnson, Jordan Davis and E.J. Jenkins required attention from the training staff during the session. The encouraging development involved Davis, who returned to the field wearing a brace after having his left arm examined. Johnson remained on the sideline after leaving with a trainer, while no immediate update was available on Jenkins.

Here is the latest injury information from Lincoln Financial Field.

Lane Johnson

Johnson walked off the field with a member of the training staff during practice. He later stood on the sideline with his helmet and spoke with Jordan Mailata, suggesting there was no immediate cause for alarm.

Johnson did not return for the following competitive periods. Fred Johnson replaced him at first-team right tackle.

The Eagles did not immediately announce an injury or provide additional information. With the preseason finale three days away, Philadelphia had little reason to expose its veteran right tackle to unnecessary risk.

Jordan Davis

Davis left a team period after appearing to get his left arm or wrist banged up. Trainers examined the area on the sideline before Davis tested his strength and spoke briefly with general manager Howie Roseman. Davis eventually returned to the field with a brace on his left arm. His return was the most encouraging indication that the issue was not immediately considered serious.

Philadelphia did not announce a diagnosis.

E.J. Jenkins

Jenkins left the field with his left arm immobile. Trainers evaluated the reserve tight end on the sideline. No update was immediately available regarding his condition. Jenkins is competing for a roster spot in a crowded tight end room and can use every available repetition before Sunday’s cutdown deadline.

Eagles who did not practice

The Eagles listed seven players as nonparticipants:

  • Offensive tackle Markel Bell: thumb/leg
  • Cornerback Jakorian Bennett: knee
  • Tight end Grant Calcaterra: back
  • Guard Landon Dickerson: rest/not injury related
  • Cornerback Jonathan Jones: shoulder
  • Tight end Eli Stowers: hamstring
  • Safety Cole Wisniewski: concussion

Dickerson’s absence was scheduled rest rather than an injury. Drew Kendall replaced him at first-team left guard.

Bell’s absence became more noticeable after Lane Johnson left the session. With Bell unavailable, Fred Johnson handled the remaining first-team work at right tackle. Stowers missed his second consecutive practice with a hamstring issue. The second-round tight end has not produced significant preseason statistics, but his development remains an important part of Philadelphia’s offensive plans.

Wisniewski remains in the concussion protocol, while Jones continues missing valuable time with a shoulder injury.

Mac McWilliams limited

McWilliams was listed as a limited participant because of a shoulder injury. The second-year cornerback had recently dealt with a groin issue before leaving the preseason game against New England. His availability is particularly important because Philadelphia is evaluating several defensive backs for the final roster spots.

The Eagles will practice again on Wednesday before holding a walkthrough on Thursday. Additional information on Johnson, Davis and Jenkins could become available before Friday’s preseason finale against Cincinnati.
