Carse joins a growing list of England cricketers to have found themselves embroiled in a drinking controversy. In a video making the rounds on social media and published by the Telegraph, Carse can be seen in handcuffs, surrounded by police officers, outside a nightclub.
Carse’s Durham teammates, Ben Stokes and Matthew Potts, can also be spotted in the video. Potts was seen trying to talk to Carse while Stokes briefly appeared in the background before moving outside the frame.
“We are aware of an incident,” an ECB statement read, “which is reported to have taken place in Derby last night, and are currently investigating. We will provide a further update when possible.”
The Telegraph reported that Carse was briefly detained by the police before he returned to the team hotel after the incident at Molly Malone’s Irish Tavern in Derby. The report further claims that a drink was spilled onto Carse and an exchange of words ensued, which ultimately led to the fast bowler’s detention.
Stokes, Potts, and Carse were part of the Durham XI that beat Derbyshire by 338 runs in the County Championship. He took a wicket in each innings. Some Durham cricketers went to the nightclub to celebrate their win, where the incident happened. Carse is notably part of the England squad for the ongoing Test series against Pakistan, but didn’t feature in the first game.
Stokes and Gus Atkinson were involved in a nightclub incident in Bristol in June after the first Test against New Zealand. They missed the second Test as the ECB launched a disciplinary probe, and Stokes eventually retired from international cricket after the series.
England white-ball captain Harry Brook had been involved in an altercation with a bouncer at a nightclub in Wellington in October 2025, while Ben Duckett was filmed in an inebriated state in the resort town of Noosa Heads during the 2025/26 Ashes that England lost 4-1.
