Edman Walks it Off in Extras Against Pirates as Dodgers Earn Fourth Straight Win

For the first time in August, the Los Angeles Dodgers are on a four-game winning streak, thanks to a series-opening walk-off victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates by the bat of Tommy Edman, 5-4.

Edman's hit in the bottom of the 10th inning marked the seventh walk-off hit for the Dodgers in 2026.

The trip down to Denver in their last series was a blessing in disguise for a Dodgers club that needed to trend upward in a hurry with a quick three-game weekend series back at home looming.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, in his 23rd start of the season, was coming off a tear, striking out nine through six innings against the Milwaukee Brewers before the quick trip to play the Colorado Rockies

He upped the ante on Friday against the Pirates in the series opener, going 6.1 innings with nine strikeouts and giving up just two earned runs.

The Pirates tagged Yamamoto early in the first inning by getting on the board following a sequence of two singles and a hit-by-pitch that led to an RBI single from Nick Gonzales.

The red-hot bat of Max Muncy responded in the Dodgers' home half of the first inning by launching his 26th home run of the season for a solo shot. It was his fourth longball in his last eight games and has produced a slash line of .286/.333/.762 in his last 21 at-bats.

Gonzales' bat returned in the top half of the third, giving the Pirates the lead right back with yet another RBI single. Mookie Betts responded in his own right the following half-inning, with a go-ahead two-run RBI single up the middle with the bases loaded that gave the Dodgers a 4-2 lead.

A scary moment occurred in the third inning as Andy Pages was plunked on the hand by a 99 mph fastball from Bubba Chandler. Pages would remain in the game until being replaced by Kiké Hernández in center field in the fifth inning.

Dave Roberts revealed that X-rays showed Pages has suffered a fracture in his left hand and will be "out a while."

The Dodgers skipper does not believe that he will undergo surgery or miss the remainder of the season, but regardless, Pages will be out for at least the next four weeks. At this time, the Dodgers and Roberts do not have a suitable replacement in store, but Roberts added that Edman could take a bulk of starts in center.

From there, Yamamoto shut down the Pirates and retired nine straight before giving up a walk to Oneil Cruz with two outs in the sixth. The right-hander was touched up for a leadoff double in the seventh by Jake Mangum and would later induce a pop-up to Jacob Gonzalez before plunking Jared Triolo, ending Yamamoto's night.

But alas, the bullpen continues to be the only dark spot for the Dodgers as they seek to get back on track with in the midst of the dog days of August.

With one out and a runner on second, newly entered arm Kyle Hurt left a full-count fastball down the middle that Cruz launched to center field to tie the game in the eighth. The ball came off the bat at 112 mph.

Fast forward to the 10th inning, and the Dodgers had runners on the corners and two outs. Edman came up to the plate against Gregory Soto and poked the go-ahead, game-winning hit to left field.

With the win, the Dodgers improve to 78-51 on the season and remain perfect in extra innings.

Tarik Skubal takes the mound for Los Angeles on Saturday as the Dodgers look to secure the series win.
