FERRUM, Va. -- In a non-conference football showdown held at W.B. Adams Stadium, Emory & Henry triumphed over Ferrum with a commanding score of 55-16. This contest took place during Hall of Fame Weekend and was part of the annual Crooked Road Classic, a tradition that has been in place since the 2016 season. The game also marked the 40th meeting between these two programs, underscoring a long-standing rivalry.
Emory & Henry, now with a record of 1-1, started the game strong, quickly establishing a 14-0 lead by scoring on their first two possessions. Ferrum responded with a spark of hope when quarterback Eli Foutz connected with Jerome Blakeney for a 57-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the gap to 21-6 with 11:50 left in the second quarter. However, the Wasps quickly regained control, adding two more touchdowns before halftime to extend their lead to 35-6 at the break.
As the second half commenced, Ferrum (0-2) aimed to shift momentum in their favor. Foutz found Brett Tate-Blanks for a 54-yard touchdown pass just 55 seconds into the third quarter, bringing the score to 35-13. Despite this effort, Emory & Henry responded robustly, scoring two additional touchdowns in the third quarter. Dallas Chavis was pivotal in this surge, executing a 20-yard run followed by an impressive 66-yard run, pushing the Wasps' lead to 49-16 heading into the final quarter.
Ferrum had a chance to add to their score early in the fourth quarter when Elias Hines intercepted Emory & Henry quarterback Tyler Knutson and returned the ball 39 yards to the Wasps' 36-yard line. Unfortunately for the Panthers, they could not capitalize on this turnover and turned the ball over on downs at the Wasps' 33-yard line. Emory & Henry capped off their scoring with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Knutson to Blake Morris with 7:06 remaining in the game.
In terms of individual performances, Emory & Henry's Cole Lambert completed 7 of 10 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns. Dallas Chavis was a standout on the ground, rushing for 128 yards on eight carries, scoring twice. Khyair Lundy also made significant contributions, catching two passes for 135 yards and one touchdown. Other notable performances included M.A. Skanes with two receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown, and De'Ante Childs, who rushed for 75 yards on 11 carries.
From Ferrum's side, Eli Foutz had a solid outing, completing 18 of 34 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns. Jycen Anciso contributed with 32 rushing yards and four receptions for 13 yards. Tay Carter and Tate-Blanks were key targets, with Carter recording three catches for 65 yards and Tate-Blanks catching two passes for 59 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Ernest Amoyaw led with six tackles, while Elias Hines made three tackles and recorded an interception.
