Aspiring WNBA player Enes Kanter Freedom was greeted by a handful of hecklers before entering the Indiana Fever-Chicago Sky game on Sunday, including one taunter who yelped he was a “b*tch ass n*gga!”
The same heckler repeatedly told Freedom he was a “sorry” player when he was in the NBA, before telling him to scram. Freedom kept walking slowly into the arena, and he later posted a clip of the semi-hostile moment on X.
“We are getting attacked before the WNBA game in Chicago,” Freedom said.
He made it into the United Center and later posted a picture of himself wearing a shirt saying, “Woman: noun. adult human. female.”

Sunday’s exchange followed Freedom protesting the WNBA’s approach to trans issues by declaring for the league’s draft earlier this month.
The 6’10 Freedom posted a brief video of himself signing his letter to WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert while wearing a black t-shirt declaring “Invest in women, Pay women, Hire women.” His video showed him dunking on an outdoor hoop as pundits sang his praises in the background; it also included a soundbite of Outkick founder Clay Travis saying the WNBA “does not ban men who identify as women from playing right now.”
“Rules are rules!” Freedom captioned his clip, which showed him sitting in front of a painting of George Washington.
The league’s bargaining agreement says only women can be drafted, but Freedom and Royce White, another ex-NBA player, have called out the WNBA for not defining what a woman is — something which prompted both of them to declare they are entering the draft as transgender women.
Their announcements spurred the WNBA to put out a statement saying it would not be “used as political pawns.”
This all came as Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham has been at the center of a media frenzy over the last month, after she told ESPN she did not believe girls and women should play against biological boys and men who have transitioned.
Here is the comment which sparked the whole saga:
“I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I’m like, ‘I never once said that,’” [Cunningham] says. “I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”
Cunningham’s remark has been both praised and condemned, with some fans rallying in support of her and making her Adidas sneakers a must-have item. Others have criticized her for it, including one opposing coach who took a not-so-subtle shot at Cunningham by wearing a shirt declaring “Trans Kids Belong.”
Things seemed to hit a new level — or low, more accurately — two weeks ago when Cunningham was clobbered with a clothesline smack to the head in a nationally broadcast game. The vicious hit did not appear to hurt her vocal chords too much, though, because Cunningham was seen the following week jumping on a bar top and belting out a Toby Keith country tune.
Freedom on Saturday night praised Cunningham in a Fox News interview with Lara Trump.
“She’s an American hero,” Freedom said.
