Enes Kanter Freedom issues major warning to WNBA if draft declaration is overruled

Enes Kanter Freedom continues to maintain a strong stance on playing in the WNBA.

Former third overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, Enes Kanter Freedom, stunned the basketball community when he announced his wish to play in the WNBA.

With the WNBA yet to reach a solid conclusion on the potential inclusion of transgender athletes in the league, the former NBA star has decided to declare for the 2027 draft.

Since then, Kanter has faced a lot of criticism from WNBA fans and experts alike, but the ex-NBA star remains firm on his stance.

Over the last few years, the WNBA has been adamant about its inclusive image. This was fine until the debate about trans athletes’ inclusion went viral on social media.

Many believe Freedom declaring for the 2027 draft is a method to force the W into clearing their participation policies. But until then, Freedom wants to ensure the WNBA doesn’t discriminate against him.

“The WNBA says a woman is anyone who claims to be one. So if I say I’m a woman, you have to accept it. Those are the rules the WNBA created,” Freedom wrote on X.

He added, “Why does anyone get to decide whose journey is real and whose isn’t? Who gets to judge? Rules are Rules.”

The WNBA’s top executives are currently in a major discussion about finding out what a woman is. As surprising as it may sound, the W isn’t expected to reach a conclusion soon.

So, until then, if Freedom identifies as a woman and wants to enter the draft, there is no reason for a rejection without a detailed explanation.
