ESPN Personality Matt Miller Charged for His Near-Fatal Car Crash in Which He Lost an Arm

ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller has been charged with a misdemeanor in connection with a car crash in which he was seriously injured and lost his left arm.

Authorities in Missouri charged Miller, 43, with failing to drive on the right half of the roadway, which resulted in the June 17 accident in Jasper County, according to court documents filed on Monday, Aug. 10.

Miller’s 2023 Ford Bronco crossed the center line and struck a semi tractor trailer, an accident report found.

The Joplin, Mo. native was ejected from his SUV and suffered significant injuries, including several fractures and broken ribs, the broadcaster later shared on X.

Miller was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he underwent multiple surgeries and had his left arm amputated.

A hearing for Miller’s misdemeanor charge is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 21 in Jasper County Circuit Court.

In the wake of Miller’s accident, the Missouri Attorney General’s Office launched an investigation on July 2 into allegations that the ESPN analyst owed numerous individuals payment for fantasy football leagues which he operated.

A total of 26 complaints have been filed against the former Bleacher Report writer, Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway confirmed, according to USA Today.

“It does look like it’s going to be a lengthy investigation because there were a lot of transactions,” Hanaway said.

The allegations came to light after Miller’s sister-in-law launched a GoFundMe on his behalf. 

Donations to the fundraiser — which has raised more than $50,000 — were paused on July 3 after the investigation came to light, USA Today reported.

Miller told The Athletic in July that he could not speak freely about the allegations due to the ongoing investigation.

“Because this is an active investigation, I’ve been told by legal counsel to limit my response,” Miller told the outlet. “However, I’ve tried reaching out to all the winners from the last season to make sure they’ve been paid.”

Miller joined ESPN in 2021 as an NFL Draft contributor and became a year-round analyst the following year. The broadcaster made his on-air debut in 2023 at the NFL Draft in Kansas City, according to his ESPN bio.
