Evening rain could delay Bengals game, Cincinnati Open matches

The Bengals' first preseason game and Cincinnati Open matches could be halted by Cincinnati's third consecutive day of rain.

Rain is expected to begin around 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service of Wilmington – the same time the Bengals will kickoff against the Detroit Lions at Paycor Stadium, as well as when the evening portion of the Cincinnati Open's first round is scheduled to begin.

"It's good weather until about 7 p.m.," said meteorologist James Gibson.

It's hard to know where exactly rain will fall, he said. But an afternoon model suggested downtown Cincinnati was more likely to receive rain than Mason, according to Gibson.

Showers are expected to continue until 7 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, Gibson said. A flood watch for the Greater Cincinnati area is set to expire shortly after.

The active weather pattern is expected to ease heading into the weekend.

The drier stretch is expected to last through much of the weekend before another cold front arrives Sunday night, bringing the next chance for showers and thunderstorms.

"August is definitely supposed to be drier," Gibson said. Three consecutive days of heavy storms was "atypical," he said.
