LeBron James and Russell Westbrook have a complicated history due to their time together on the Lakers. So fans aren’t quite buying the King’s words to Brodie after he retired.

Russell Westbrook’s Los Angeles Lakers stint was one of the most scrutinised periods of his NBA career. The fit simply didn’t work alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and it all turned out quite ugly.

James had reportedly been the one who pushed the Lakers to trade for Westbrook. The move was questioned from the beginning, and fans were quick to roast when the team failed to make the playoffs.

In less than two seasons after joining, Russ was traded away again. In the aftermath, reports suggested his relationship with Bron and AD had deteriorated, and nothing has disproved this since then.

When Westbrook announced he was retiring, the NBA world took to social media to celebrate his legendary career. Many thanks, wishes, and retrospective takes came from throughout the community.

LeBron was quick to show his appreciation, too. On Instagram, he commented on the former MVP’s retirement post saying, “HELLUVA CAREER BRODIE!! HOF next!!” Surprisingly, fans took issue with this.

“Nah Bron, when all that drama was happening n LA, you didn’t have Russ’ back,” one fan pointed out. “Tell LeBron to shut up, he’s the one who ruined the back end of Westbrook’s career,” wrote another.

“Bron the reason why Russ got traded and kept getting vet minimums,” a third fan said. “That fake love is so irritating. Where’s this love during the game?” asked a different fan.

“LeBron is so phony man, I just can’t take this dude seriously,” a fifth fan claimed. “If you really cared about Brodie, you wouldn’t have done him like that,” said another comment.

It’s clear that many fans think James is being facetious with his wishes. However, it’s more than possible for the King to appreciate Westbrook’s greatness while still not being on excellent terms with his former teammate.
