SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Courtesy of Sioux City Explorers) - Sioux City (38–44) came up just short in a tight, low‑scoring 2–1 setback to Fargo‑Moorhead (44–38) on Wednesday night undone by a pair of costly miscues.

Manager Steve Montgomery pointed to those turning points, “...very well played game. However, can’t make those mental errors in a game like this.”

Fargo‑Moorhead threatened immediately in the first, loading the bases, but Peniel Otano escaped by striking out Tucupita Marcano to keep the game scoreless.

Otano worked out of trouble again until the fifth, when two walks and a single loaded the bases. A hit‑by‑pitch to Dillon Thomas forced in the game’s first run, giving the RedHawks a 1–0 lead.

With a runner on first in the sixth, Anderson Bido fielded a grounder back to the mound but threw high over Zac Vooletich at second, allowing Marcano to reach third. He scored on Brian Fuentes’ sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 2–0.

Sioux City finally broke through in the bottom half. A wild pitch from Kyle Crigger allowed Vooletich to score, trimming the deficit to 2–1.

The Explorers nearly tied it in the seventh, with Dillon Tatum standing on third and two outs, but Vooletich flew out to right on the first pitch.

D’Shawn Knowles led off the ninth with a single to bring the tying run aboard, but on the next pitch, Juan Fernandez cut him down attempting to steal. Jackson Van De Brake and Wilfredo Gimenez were retired in order, sealing the RedHawks’ win.

Crigger was outstanding in relief for Fargo‑Moorhead, delivering six innings of one‑run, four‑hit baseball to close out the game.
