The St. Jude Championship enters its second round, with all 70 players battling fiercely at TPC Southwind as each golfer vies to advance to the BMW Championship.
Of the 70 golfers in the field, only the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings will earn a spot in next week’s BMW Championship. However, advancing means more than simply prolonging the postseason. Those who qualify for the BMW Championship will also guarantee their place in every Signature Event on the 2027 PGA Tour schedule.
Some golfers, such as Jordan Spieth, entered the postseason on the bubble, with Spieth sitting at 54th in the FedEx Cup standings ahead of the first round at TPC Southwind. However, thanks to a stellar opening-round 65 at the St. Jude Championship, Spieth has surged up the leaderboard and improved his chances of advancing.
Robert MacIntyre, on the other hand, endured a tough opening round in Memphis. After recording three double-bogeys, he posted an 82 and finds himself at the bottom of the St. Jude leaderboard. Nevertheless, MacIntyre still holds the 37th spot in the overall FedEx Cup standings, giving him some breathing room as he heads into the weekend at TPC Southwind.
As the St. Jude Championship continues, several golfers, including Max Homa and Shawn Lowry, find themselves in precarious positions, needing strong performances to advance.
