Brought on at halftime in place of Ousmane Dembele during the trip to Rennes, Ferran Torres treated himself to a brace and no doubt earned points with Luis Enrique. Enough to spark a debate over who should start up front... at the expense of the Ballon d'Or winner?
Arriving this summer at PSG to bring competition at the No. 9 position in place of Goncalo Ramos, Ferran did not take long to win over Luis Enrique. The reason: a brace scored in his very first match this Sunday night, during the trip to Rennes. Two goals were scored after coming on at halftime in place of Dembele, who had just put in a very average first half.
Since Luis Enrique never hesitates to put his best players on the bench when their recent performances warrant it, can we expect the reigning Ballon d'Or winner to find himself on the bench more often if Ferran performs? That is the question journalist David Aiello is asking on the airwaves of Ici Paris Ile-de-France.
"That's Luis Enrique's software; there are no absolute starters. He takes a guy who is a world champion and Barca's top scorer last year; he could not have sold him on the idea of coming as a supersub. That's just not possible for a guy like that. The project is clear: prove yourself and be the best player."
He has qualities that, depending on the opposition, the context, etc., make him a No. 9 not in the Goncalo Ramos mould but capable of slotting in, dropping deep, and taking part in the play... he has a lot of assets to be a potential starter. The competition is incredible, but he is among the guys who will put themselves forward," he explains. It now remains to be seen what Luis Enrique has in mind regarding his compatriot and new striker.

In other news, PSG made their way back to the Campus PSG at Poissy (training centre) on Monday morning for its traditional day-after-match session, following the 2-2 draw at Rennes on Sunday. Paris will play again this Friday night at Lille, the day after the Champions League league-phase draw.
