The 2026 college football season kicks off this week and The Athletic has collected 30 of the most anticipated matchups of the season, while also ranking them into tiers.
The Florida Gators are featured on the list against one of their long-standing rivals, the Georgia Bulldogs.
The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, or War for the Oar, takes place this season in Atlanta, Georgia in Mercedes-Benz Stadium due to renovations in its usual location, Jacksonville, Florida.
The first-ever meeting between the two programs was in 1904, when the Gators lost embarrassingly, 52-0. In fact, Florida did not win a game against Georgia until the eighth meeting of the rivalry game.
According to Florida's count, the Bulldogs currently lead the series 57–44–2, and according to Georgia's count, they lead 58–44–2. Even though UGA leads the series, the team from the Sunshine State has given them their fair share of lumps. From 1990–1996, Florida won seven consecutive games against its Peach State rivals.
The most recent matchup between the two came last season, in which the Gators nearly came away with the upset victory against the ranked opponent, 24-20.
Currently, Georgia is on a five-game streak against the Gators; however, Jon Sumrall and Co. will look to change that in his first meeting against the established rival.
