After a breakout year for the Chicago Bulls last season, former Duke point guard Tre Jones spoke about his collegiate career, discussing what could have been. When asked, Jones revealed that if it weren't for COVID-19, he likely would have returned for the 2020-21 season, what would have been his third season at Duke.
Furthermore, Jones doubled down by saying that had NIL been involved in the game like it is today, he may have stayed all four seasons, hoping to win a championship at his "dream school" under Coach K, whom he was very close with. Jones, of course, was well aware of the program before committing, as his older brother Tyus Jones had won an NCAA championship as a Blue Devil during the 2014-15 season. Had Tre stayed for all four years, the 2021-22 season may have been Duke's best chance to win another title, as Jones would have been paired with former No. 1 overall pick Paolo Banchero.
Either way, Jones left a lasting impact at Duke during his time with the Blue Devils, averaging 16.2 points, 6.4 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals en route to an ACC Player of the Year award during his sophomore season.
