Former Nets legend Buck Williams speaks on Joe Tsai's recent comments

The Brooklyn Nets are in the midst of its rebuild and along the way, the product on the court has not been what the fanbase ideally wants to see. Recently, team owner Joe Tsai spoke on the state of Brooklyn's rebuild, especially when compared to a team like their crosstown rival in the New York Knicks, but a former franchise legend is hoping Tsai is trying to stir things up.

"I'm sure Joe wants to bring a better team to Brooklyn, but maybe this would be the fire to kind of light some of the decisions in terms of moving forward with the team," former Nets All-Star Buck Williams said of Tsai and the organization during a recent appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio. Williams has routinely kept up with Brooklyn over the years, but it seems that he wants something to change sooner rather than later.

"You've got to have a competitive team in that New York rebuilding process that they have. I think they're heading in the right direction, but I think they have to also bring some other pieces in where they can be a little more competitive," Williams continued. "They only won 20 games last year, so hopefully this is a team that's going to ignite him to make some different decisions and move the team a little quicker in this whole rebuilding process."

Tsai recently spoke to NetsDaily about whether the Knicks winning the NBA championship for the first time in 53 years will change the trajectory of Brooklyn's rebuild and he seemed to still believe in the patient approach. "[We] had a plan and we’re rebuilding and I think right now we are on a positive trajectory. So it doesn’t change my thinking at all," Tsai said in part of his response in that interview with NetsDaily.

The Nets have effectively been rebuilding since the 2022-23 season when they traded away Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving to end the era of superstars on the floor representing Brooklyn. The Nets are in an interesting spot as they have plenty of assets to use either in future drafts or in trades, but at the moment, Tsai and general manager Sean Marks have to figure out how to use those assets to build the kind of winner that people like Williams want to see.
