Former Rams receiver abruptly retires on his 33rd birthday

Former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Allen Robinson II officially closed the book on an 11-year NFL career Monday, announcing his retirement on his 33rd birthday.

“To every love story, there comes a final chapter,” Robinson wrote on Instagram. “Football gave me more than I ever could’ve imagined.”

For Rams fans, Robinson’s chapter in Los Angeles will be remembered less as a love story and more as an expensive experiment that never quite worked.

Coming off their Super Bowl LVI championship, the Rams signed Robinson to a three-year, $46.5 million contract in March 2022, envisioning the former Pro Bowler as another dangerous weapon for Matthew Stafford alongside then-Ram Cooper Kupp.

The marriage looked terrific on paper. On Sundays, the chemistry never materialized.

Robinson appeared in 10 games during an injury-riddled, disastrous title-defense season for Los Angeles, catching 33 passes for 339 yards and one touchdown. His season ended early because of a foot injury and, by the following April, the Rams had seen enough, trading him to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It was a forgettable stop inside an otherwise impressive career.

A second-round pick by Jacksonville in 2014, Robinson blossomed into a Pro Bowl receiver and eventually produced three 1,000-yard seasons. He later played for Chicago, Pittsburgh and Detroit, finishing with 565 receptions, 7,058 receiving yards and 43 touchdowns in 139 regular-season games.

Robinson last played for his hometown Lions in 2024 and sat out the entire 2025 season before making his retirement official Monday.

“I came, I saw, I conquered and I leave with nothing but gratitude,” Robinson wrote.
