Jefferson County High School (Dandridge, Tennessee) defeated Cocke County High School (Newport, Tennessee), 55-0, Friday in Newport.
Former Tennessee football player SpencerRiley is Jefferson County's head coach.
He is a 1996 Jefferson County graduate and played for the Vols from 1996-99. Riley was a four-year letterman at Tennessee and started at guard during his first two seasons before moving to center as a junior.
He played for head coach Phillip Fulmer and was a member of Tennessee's 1998 national championship team.
Riley has guided Jefferson County to six playoff appearances and have qualified for the postseason in each of the last five years after going 0-10 in 2020.
In 2023, he guided Jefferson County to a 10-2 record and was named Region 1-6 Coach of the Year after leading the Patriots to a region championship. After losing a season opener, Jefferson County won nine consecutive games before being eliminated in the second round of the TSSAA playoffs.
Riley was hired in 2016 and the Patriots finished with a 3-8 record and qualified for the playoffs. He had his first winning season at the school in 2021, going 6-5. Riley has compiled a 53-55 record.
Jefferson County will next play on Aug. 23 versus Sevier County High School. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. EDT. Sevier County won the 5A championship in 2024 and was a runner-up last season.
