Former West Brom Quevin Castro dies during friendly match in Portugal

Former West Bromwich Albion player Quévin Castro has died at the age of 25 after collapsing during a friendly match in Portugal.

The Portuguese-English midfielder was representing Real SC against Estrela da Amadora on Saturday morning when he became unconscious during the opening minutes of the fixture.

Medical teams from both clubs immediately rushed to his aid, with a defibrillator also used in an attempt to save his life. Emergency services were called to the scene and paramedics continued efforts to resuscitate Castro, but he was later pronounced dead.

Born in Portugal, Castro moved to England in 2017 at the age of 16. He spent time in the youth systems of Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion before playing for several clubs in the country.

He returned to Portugal this season after signing for Real SC, with the midfielder hoping to help the club compete in the Campeonato de Portugal.
