It's been a terrible season in Queens.
The New York Mets are 11 games out of a Wild Card and have the second-highest payroll in the Majors.
Their All-Star shortstop, Francisco Lindor, was included in trade rumors at last week's deadline. There was speculation that the Mets would trade Lindor to start phase one of a full rebuild.
But that would've left the Mets with Juan Soto, Nolan McLean, and a few rookies in A.J. Ewing and Carson Benge to rely on next season. Plus, Lindor wants to stay with the Mets despite a losing season.
“When I signed up here, it was to be in the good times and bad times and to win,” Lindor told the New York Post.
The Mets were sellers at the deadline and traded away players (Freddy Peralta, Luke Weaver, Clay Holmes, Tyrone Taylor) who they thought were going to be key pieces in their run to the postseason.
But Lindor has a no-trade clause in his 10-year, $341 million contract with New York. The switch-hitter must approve any deal.
“We have the right guys,” Lindor told the New York Post. “[David] Stearns is the right guy. That is No. 1. We have one of the best owners in sports history, because [Steve Cohen] is going to go always with the energy that needs to be put into the team. When you are in a big market there is not such a thing as rebuilding," Lindor continued.

"There is a little bit of transition, that is it. You can’t afford to rebuild in big markets, so I think we are working toward the right place. We have not taken a step backwards.”
Mets owner Steve Cohen does not seem like the type of guy who'd be willing to rebuild the roster for multiple seasons.
The Mets want to win, and Lindor wants to be a part of their success.
