Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United youngster Habeeb Ogunneye, while the Gunners are also eyeing a winger at Old Trafford, according to a new update.
Ogunneye is a GunnerYesterday, The Peoples Person relayed a report revealing that Arsenal were in talks to sign Ogunneye, whose contract at Old Trafford expires next year.
The 20-year-old right-back was not included by Michael Carrick for the senior side’s pre-season tour this summer, with Jaydan Kamason the preferred option.
The East London native enjoyed a loan spell with Newport County last season, making 21 appearances across all competitions for the League Two side. He gained valuable experience in both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Ogunneye is understood to be at the centre of a battle between England and Nigeria – both of whom he qualifies to represent through his birth and heritage – for his allegiance at international level.
Under-21s boss Lee Carsley has described him as a “possible future star”, though he is yet to play beyond the under-17s age group for the Three Lions.
Standard Sport reveals Arsenal have “now agreed a deal” with United to sign Ogunneye. He is due to complete a medical today before official confirmation of the move over the weekend.
It will be a free transfer, with the Red Devils retaining a 40% sell-on clause on any future sale. He will join up with the under-21s at the Emirates, while also being given the opportunity to train with Mikel Arteta’s senior side – but the Gunners are not done there.
Scanlon next on the agendaArsenal are also locked in talks to lure Manchester United starlet James Scanlon to North London before the transfer window closes on 1 September.
Capable of playing on either flank, the 19-year-old winger is also comfortable when deployed centrally as an attacking midfielder. He made six appearances for Swindon Town on loan last season, scoring once.
Scanlon is also a fully fledged international, having made 24 appearances for Gibraltar, whom he qualifies to represent through the mother’s side of his family. He is the only Red Devil in history to represent Los Llanis.
Arsenal are said to be “confident over a deal for Scanlon as personal terms are not expected to be an issue”. He is described as a “serious target” for the Premier League champions.
