High school football officially started on Friday, Aug. 21.

Venice earned an overtime win on the road against Rabun Gap in Georgia. Cardinal Mooney rebounded against Berkeley Prep after being routed by Saint Thomas Aquinas in the preseason. Despite the bus breaking down on the way to Naples, Riverview still earned the road win. And Lakewood Ranch defeated rival Parrish Community.

And since individual performances can get lost in the final scores, The Herald-Tribune is honoring the top performances each week.
