A pair of San Francisco Giants players are set to undergo MRI's on Monday, Aug. 24.
Willy Adames got hurt in the first inning of the team's latest loss, and while his back had begun to feel much better, he now has a new injury to worry about.
According to NBC Sports Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic, Adames will undergo an MRI on his left elbow due to the injury he sustained sliding into home plate.
While it didn't seem like much at the time, the adrenaline eventually wore off, and Adames was in more and more pain as the game went on.
Sadly for the Giants, that wasn't the only injury in the contest. Victor Bericoto was pulled in the sixth inning, and Pavlovic confirmed it is indeed knee soreness, but the Giants are a bit more optimistic about his status.
Bericoto should be good to goAccording to Pavlovic, "The Giants don't think he [Bericoto] did any serious damage."
Giants fans certainly didn't want the 24-year-old to miss any time as he's become a cornerstone of the youth movement this franchise has to offer.
San Francisco knew they needed to trade away some of their key pieces, but it's still been great to have guys like Adames and Rafael Devers around.
In a world where Adames may find himself on the Injured List, it doesn't seem like Bericoto will join him.
Again, it's far too early to speculate, but judging by the immediate reaction from Pavlovic, Bericoto should be good to go, but there's a bit of concern when it comes to the status of Adames.
Will Adames land on the IL?Despite powering through a back injury, something new has given Adames and the Giants something to think about.
Knowing this season is already a lost cause, is there a decision to be made in regard to shutting Adames down for the rest of the year?
There's certainly a discussion to be had there; it just boils down to how much pain Adames is truly in, and where this team sees the lineup without him.
Everything seemed to be back on track for Adames now that his back issues were behind him, at least for the most part, but this is the latest example of the Giants not being able to catch a break this season.
It's been far from a career year for Adames, but now this elbow injury is only going to make everything that much harder moving forward.
